About

I am a freelance filmmaker, video editor and writer based in York. Following the completion of a TV and filmmaking diploma from Futureworks School of Media, I achieved an MA with distinction in Screen Studies from the University of Manchester in 2016. Since then, I have been working on a number of independent film and video art projects. I’m particularly interested in memories, time and human connections. One of my more recent projects has been in collaboration with St. Leonard’s Hospice, and you can find out about that in the 360° section below.

This website collates some of my previous work, and also includes information on my current projects. I am interested in taking on corporate and commercial work, so please do get in touch if you would like to inquire about a promotional video. My showreel can be found below.

I also write YA fantasy fiction. Please see the writing section for more details, and to find out how to receive a free eBook.

Four Divinations (2021). The future of the UK has never been more uncertain. Held in the grip of international crisis, our usual methods of predicting what comes next no longer hold water. Economic growth forecasts buckle; political projections collapse. Four Divinations turns instead to the supernatural, and playfully explores alternative ways to predict the future. The collaborators, Adam Jacob Burgess (visuals) and Daniel Edward Crean (music), have responded separately to four modes of divination: augury (birds), cheiromancy (palm reading), oneiromancy (dream reading) and oculomancy (eyes), combining their individual responses together to make this experimental film.

Flood (2020). Flood is an experimental film. It pairs visuals of flooding in York in February 2020 with verbatim soundbites from British politicians speaking over the past five years. These soundbites are often performed for publicity reasons, to show that the government is working on a solution, but these solutions tend to be short-term in nature. The quotes used in the film have been stretched and distorted, lengthening the politicians' promises until they blend in with and become part of an atmospheric soundscape.

360° Filmmaking

Over the last two years, I have worked in partnership with St. Leonard’s Hospice to create a series of 360° films for their patients, and a 360° tour of the hospice. The films were designed to be calm and peaceful, whereas the hospice tour was intended to aid patients and families in making better informed choices about end of life care.

Local Films

This is an example of part of the series of films I shot in York. St. Leonard’s Hospice wanted these films to be of local areas, because their patient base tend to be people from York and Yorkshire. The films were designed to be familiar and comforting for the patients, and of areas or landmarks that the patient might not be able to visit again.

Hospice Tour

The hospice tour was designed to be used by families and patients considering St. Leonard’s Hospice as their choice of end of life care. The environments shown are purposefully not clinical, illustrating the facilities available, while portraying the hospice as welcoming.

Retribution. These are stills from a feature film that I edited. A gangster film set in Manchester, the plot hinges upon four men involved in a robbery gone wrong. Tensions rise in their warehouse-hideout, while they work out who is to blame for the botched job.

Titus Andronicus Monologue. This was a film that I directed and edited. It’s a stylistic interpretation of a speech that TItus gives after he has caught Chiron and Demetrius.
